When COVID forced the community into quarantine, opportunities to connect with families and friends started to look a bit different. For Josh and Jen Bienstock, they turned to beer. They began dropping off 4-packs of local craft beer for friends with a note from “The Beer Fairiez.” The enthusiastic reception to this welcome surprise was infectious, and with each note came an invitation to continue spreading the love to others. And so, a movement began.

In August 2020, The Beer Fairiez expanded beyond their inner circle, and launched a #CraftingGratitude campaign for local heroes along with two MoCo businesses, Downtown Crown Wine and Beer and Happy Orange Project, as well as four MoCo Made breweries —Denizens Brewing Co., Elder Pine Brewing & Blending Co., Silver Branch Brewing Co., and True Respite Brewing Co.

Over the past two months, Josh and Jen have made 150 total surprise drops of local craft beer to friends, first responders and essential workers in Montgomery County, Maryland.#CraftingGratitude has also had the added benefit of helping provide much-needed support to local breweries and businesses, who have been hit hard by COVID-19.

The Beer Fairiez has successfully raised enough funds to continue making surprise beer drops to roughly 364 first responders and essential workers.  Interested in getting in on the action?
