A primary goal of the Food Council’s Food Literacy Working Group (FLWG) is to increase County residents’ access to healthy cooking, nutrition, and food safety education and resources. As part of that mission, our FLWG is currently creating a comprehensive “Food Literacy Resource Guide” which will more effectively connect County residents who seek to improve their culinary skills and/or knowledge of nutrition and food safety with the local organizations that provide these services. In addition, we hope this resource will also strengthen collaboration and resource sharing among organizations providing food literacy services in the County. The FLWG is collecting basic information from relevant local service providers with the goal of creating a searchable database, print resources, and, possibly, an interactive map and app, for the use of all who access, give referrals to, or provide these services.
Following the creation of the Directory, we will continue our efforts by hosting a series of listening sessions with local providers and residents to identify existing barriers to providing and accessing food education in the community and brainstorm strategies and resources needed to overcome these challenges.
If your organization provides food literacy services in the County and you are interested in being included in this resource guide, please complete the brief Google Form linked below so that the Food Council can accurately represent your organization.
