The Montgomery County Food Council (MCFC) is seeking passionate food system leaders to serve as Food Council Members and on our Board of Directors for the 2027–2028 term. Applications are due September 4, 2026.
The Montgomery County Food Council is a nonprofit coalition bringing together community organizations, government agencies, businesses, farmers, and residents to transform our food system. We foster collaboration, centering community voices, and driving systems-level change. Our work creates a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable local food system for all Montgomery County residents.
The Food Council is guided by an 11-member Board of Directors that provides strategic and financial oversight to the organization. The work of the Food Council is driven by 25 volunteer Council Members. They tackle local challenges ranging from food access and agricultural sustainability to community health and economic resilience.
As a Food Council Member, you’ll serve a two-year volunteer term, guiding the work of our committees and work groups, serving as subject-matter expert and representing the Food Council in the community.
Who We’re Looking For
We seek individuals with specific food system expertise (food security, agriculture, supply chain management, nutrition, community health, or related areas) who have strong community relationships and a genuine commitment to creating systemic change. Ideal candidates can authentically represent a food sector or community stakeholder perspective and dedicate meaningful time to advancing our mission.
What’s Expected
As an MCFC Board Member, you will serve a two-year volunteer term, providing organizational leadership and financial oversight for the Food Council as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Board members help secure the resources and set the strategic direction needed to sustain and grow the Food Council’s work. More information about the board service can be found here.
Who We’re Looking For
Board Members live, work, or have a strong investment in Montgomery County and have the capacity to bring specific expertise, community relationships, and/or resources to support our initiatives. We are particularly interested in individuals with skills that support nonprofit operations (financial, human resources, legal, development).

The Maryland Food System Resiliency Council (FSRC) holds a public bi-weekly meeting with the Communication & Coordination Committee to monitor and discuss food systems bills during the 2026 Maryland General Assembly Session.
Aug 25
The SNAP Work Group includes organizations that provide nutrition benefits enrollment assistance to residents, the Montgomery County Office of Eligibility and Support Services, and other groups that serve residents with low-income.
Sep 14
The Food Council’s Food Security Calls are designed for learning, information-sharing and network building.
