Food Resources
The Montgomery County Food Council has compiled a list of food resources in response to the federal government
shutdown to support members of the community that are impacted, including:
- Montgomery County Food Council Food Resource Specialists (SNAP)
- At this time, October SNAP benefits are not impacted by the federal government shutdown.
- Montgomery County Food Council Food Assistance Resource Map
- Office of Food Systems Resilience Food Distribution Calendar
- Women Infants and Children (WIC) Program
- At this time, the WIC program is operating as normal.

Governor Wes Moore has announced support and protections for Marylanders impacted by the federal government shutdown. For more information, please visit the State of Maryland’s website.

Resources Available:
- Unemployment Insurance: Federal employees impacted by the federal government shutdown may qualify for unemployment benefits.
- Utility Protections: WSSC Water will not turn off service and will waive late fees for impacted customers. Electric and gas providers cannot cut off service if bills are unpaid due to a furlough.
- Housing Protections: If you are a federal, state, or local government worker facing eviction or foreclosure because of the federal government shutdown, you can ask the court to temporarily pause the process.
- Homeowners: Free, confidential foreclosure prevention help is available.
- Renters: Free eviction prevention support is available.
As a note, these resources do not apply to federal contractors.
