MCFC is the primary convener of businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and residents
around food system issues in Montgomery County, connecting 2,000+ partners in education,
advocacy, and collaboration building initiatives. Our work cultivates a more resilient, sustainable,
and equitable local food system by enhancing food access for the 100,000+ residents at risk for
hunger, expanding food education for residents, supporting County farms and food/beverage
businesses, and addressing the environmental impact of local food production, distribution,
consumption and recycling.
The MCFC staff is a small team of 10 who collaborate closely with 25 volunteer Council Members
and 400+ active working group partners. MCFC strives to cultivate a collaborative, supportive, and
transparent work environment where all employees have opportunities to develop and apply new
skills, independently shape and implement initiatives, and build partnerships with broad and
diverse community stakeholder groups.
Position Overview:
We seek a self-motivated, skilled, and goal-oriented individual who is passionate about food access
initiatives for a SNAP Outreach Assistant position. The position is full-time (40 hours a week). This
position will require some evening and weekend hours. The position is grant-funded and continued
employment beyond one year is contingent upon the renewal of the grant. We are accepting
applications on a rolling basis, but plan a first-round review of applications on July 31, 2023.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
● Assist in the coordination of the Montgomery County Food Council’s SNAP Outreach
program
● Regularly attend community events to engage residents in SNAP outreach
● Screen County residents for SNAP eligibility
● Directly assist County residents with SNAP applications
● Connect County residents with food assistance resources
● Educate partner organizations on SNAP eligibility requirements, prescreening and
application assistance
● Increase awareness among County residents and broader local community of SNAP
resources and eligibility requirements
● Conduct outreach to County residents around other nutrition assistance programs, such as
WIC, child nutrition programs, and farmers market programs
● Administrative and programmatic support as needed
Requirements:
● Spanish language proficiency, written and verbal
● Reliable transportation to and from SNAP outreach events
● Strong verbal and written communication skills
● Comfort with public speaking and presenting
● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
● Cultural competency and ability to work effectively with a diverse community of
stakeholders
● Associate or Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive a plus
● Community engagement experience preferred
Salary and Benefits:
The successful candidate will be expected to provide their own computer with
Internet and printer, mobile telephone for communication, and reliable transportation. Mileage
and/or transportation costs for meetings and events incurred are eligible for reimbursement.
Access to an automobile is recommended. Benefits for permanent employees over 30 hours include
generous paid time off, matching SIMPLE IRA, reimbursement of eligible healthcare expenses
through an employer-funded Healthcare Reimbursement Account, a technology stipend, and paid
medical leave. Salary will be based on experience. The starting salary range for an Assistant-level
position is $42,000-$45,000 annually.
