The Montgomery County Food Council is excited to share our 2022 Annual Report, which highlights our recent accomplishments building a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable local food system that is healthy for our community, economy, and environment. Key highlights include how we:
- Created a Strategic Plan to End Childhood Hunger, in partnership with County Government, that outlines initiatives to feed the approximately 34,000 children experiencing food insecurity in our county;
- Partnered on the Farm to Food Bank program, which has invested and committed over $630,000 in local farms to support a sustained and resilient local food supply and provide more nutritious and culturally diverse produce to residents who experience hunger;
- Reached 1,968 residents, received requests for SNAP assistance from 1,224 clients, prescreened 531 residents for SNAP eligibility, and completed 523 SNAP applications for our community, which has the largest SNAP gap in the state of Maryland.
Thank you to our many community partners who make these collective successes possible as we work to fight hunger, create economic opportunity, protect our natural resources, and support residents across our community.
